As a seven-year old, Makavoy entered the World Championships for Young Horses finals ridden by the American Alexa Lowe. He subsequently moved to father and son Asselin in Canada. In 2013, nineteen-year-old Asselin and ten-year-old Makavoy won a significant class at the Spruce Meadows Masters. The year after they finished fourth in the Wellington CSI5* Grand Prix and were the most significant contributors to the prestigious Calgary Nations Cup win with a double clear round. Shortly after, they also were the runners-up in the Barcelona FEI Nations Cup Finals. Makavoy had to take a step back after, but managed to re-enter the arena at a high level at the age of sixteen.
