The selection committee jumping that proved to be a golden combination for the past three years will continue to do the selection for this edition: Pieter-Jan Berkers and Floris van Leuken will hit the road to select the very best jumper foals. The dressage committee consists of Nol Gerritsen and Wouter Plaizier. Gerritsen has been responsible for the selection of dressage foals before while Plaizier is a new face in our auction, but certainly not a novice in the dressage world.
Never change a winning team
For a few years now, Pieter-Jan and Floris have traveled the country in their search for the best material for the auction. The duo got off to a flying start in 2017 by realizing a historical high average price for the jumper foals. They repeated to select top quality foals in 2018 and 2019 for the international buyers in the auction. Berkers runs the Stal ‘t Hofstee in Lattrop, a well-known name when it comes to rearing young sport horses. Stal ‘t Hofstee is a large-scale business with over 300 young horses and all facilities in house. Floris van Leuken, owner of Holsten Stables, is another familiar face in jumping. Many top sport horses active at the highest level have come from the Holsten Stables.
Nol Gerritsen and Wouter Plaizier select the dressage foals for the elite auction. Gerritsen makes his re-entry in 2020, forming a team together with Wouter Plaizier. The sum of their expertise makes up for a strong selection committee. Gerritsen is known as the owner of the previous stud Paardencentrum de Dalhoeve, that now successfully focuses on the dressage sport. Wouter Plaizier is the owner of Plaizier Diervoeders and also has had his share of success in horse dealing and breeding with the horses Blue Hors Zack and Dark Pleasure.
Foal Auction Borculo has been able to secure two very strong selection committees with these four experienced members. The season of 2020 is the 41st edition of the Foal Auction Borculo in which the best of Dutch breeders is offered.
